A riveting-plate ( * ) mobile and sharp nails of diamond (if mechanical
nailing)
To obtain a good riveting " J ", the movement of
the tray riveur (who can be smooth or notched) should be perfectly
coordinated with that of the nail: 1) The riveting-plate should
begin to advance just before the meeting with the point of the
nail.
2) So, the nail, pushed by the height and pulled by the point
in a regular and progressive way will bend in half a perfect
circle. All the nails are riveted in the same direction.
stringerboard with nails riveted in the same direction
(*)In certain cases, the advanced use or ring nails
can avoid the riveting because their resistance in the arrachement
is more important than a smooth point. In that case, the length
of the nail should be lower than the total thickness of the
top deckboard and the strigerboard to avoid that the nail (overtakes),
what would be dangerous in certain manual manipulations.
