2009-01-20 Salyer American now uses all-plastic pallets
Salyer American Fresh Foods' U.S. customers will soon take receipt of their fresh produce on lightweight, durable, hygienic, all-plastic pallets embedded with RFID (radio frequency identification) tags from iGPS.
The 47-pound, edge rackable, 48-inch by 40-inch pallets meet or exceed the Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA) pallet standards.
The all-plastic pallets are about 30 percent lighter and more durable than their wood counterparts, making them easier to handle, and they are 100 percent recyclable.
Salyer American will source the pallets from Intelligent Global Pooling Systems (iGPS), operator of the world's first RFID-tagged, all-plastic pallet pool.
