UNDATED -- Remember the Emerald Ash Borer. It began they suspect when the green worm made its way to the port of Detroit in wooden pallets, used to transport cargo from China. Millions were spent trying to contain the bug, but we lost that battle. It kept spreading, all but wiping out the species in Michigan, and it now is killing Ash Trees in 13 states.
Now A Johnny Appleseed of sorts is building a Noah’s ark to try and save the Ash trees. Mark Widrlechner, a Federal Horticulturalist in Iowa has begun collecting ash seeds, which he plans to preserve until they day comes when they find a way to control the Ash Borer. There are over 200 different Ash Species, and it will take millions of seeds to save them all.
