A fire, perhaps set off by a wood stove, destroyed a shop building at B&D Pallet Co. on Western Avenue last night.
Deputy Chief William E. Phelon said today the blaze, which is under investigation, caused some $250,000 in damages.
"The building, just a steel shell building, was pretty much destroyed," Phelon said.
A neighbor reported the fire shortly after 10 p.m.
A fire truck remained on the scene today dousing hot spots remaining from the 30-by-70-foot building
Phelon said the cause of the fire remains undetermined although a woodstove appears to be a likely culprit.
Machinery in the shop had power to them before the blaze but there is no indication of malfunction, Phelon said.
The fire is not considered suspicious, however, Phelon said.
Phelon said business owner David Oleksak said did not believe the building had insurance.
B&D's main building and other outbuildings were not damaged and the company remains in business, Phelon said.
"They were able to lay a line in and protect the other buildings," Phelon said.
