A pallet-making company's operation here was destroyed by fire late Monday.

The fire at J.C. Pallet Co. at 501 E. Elm St. was reported about 10 p.m., said Mitchell Byrd, Bladen County's emergency services director.

The building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Byrd said.

The cause hasn't been found but Byrd said investigators think electrical issues may be responsible.

The building and its contents were valued at about $150,000, Byrd said.

Firefighters were assisted by departments from Robeson County who helped Bladen departments contain a fire in Big Swamp, near the county line.

The fire has been burning for a month, Byrd said.

Monday's high winds were blamed for the flare-up, Byrd said.
