2007-11-27 Company says biomass power plant could add 120 jobs to Watertown (BY JONATHAN SHUGARTS)
"A company proposing to build a 30-megawatt biomass power plant near Route 8 estimates the project will create jobs for at least 120 workers.
The bulk of those workers, roughly 100, will be needed to help provide the wood needed to run the plant. Twenty people will be needed for the daily operation and maintenance of the facility.
The company, the Essex-based Tamarack Energy, is proposing to build the plant in an industrial zone near Route 8 and Echo Lake Road in Watertown. It will convert trees hauled from forest-thinning projects, old pallets and piles of wood chips into a source of renewable energy that should power roughly 30,000 homes
