2007-07-20 Demonstrators Protest A-1 Pallet Demolition
Leave A-1 Pallet Company alone. That's the message a few demonstrators hoped to get across in a protest today.
The group waved signs outside the wood pallet recycling company this morning. In past weeks, Mayor Melton has called for the demolition of the building, saying it's overrun with rats and dangerous chemicals.
The owners of the recycling company say the building is safe and up to par. The owners believe demolishing the building would increase unemployment in Jackson.
"We need as many jobs and as much economical development as Jackson can have and not tear them down and run them over," says Carl Monte Reeves, Owner.
The State Department of Archives and History is calling the site of the A-1 Pallet Company an important historic resource for the city of Jackson.
The city historic preservation commission is scheduled to make its ruling on the demolition in September.
