The accident scene where a forklift worker narrowly escaped serious injury or worse
A GLASGOW tile firm has been fined for breaching health and safety laws after a worker narrowly escaped being killed in a warehouse accident.
Around three tons of tiles came crashing down around an N&C Nicobond employee as he was using a forklift truck to load pallets of tiles on to a rack.
Glasgow Sheriff Court was told the man escaped serious injury only because he was inside the fork lift cab when the tiles toppled to the floor.
Officers from Glasgow City Council's health and safety unit visited the site and concluded the incident happened because employees had no idea how heavy the metal pallets were and had to estimate the weight.

This led to the racks becoming overloaded and collapsing.
Nicholls and Clarke Limited, trading as N&C Nicobond, of Colquhoun Avenue, Hillington, admitted breaching health and safety laws. It was fined £333 and ordered to improve safety procedures at the warehouse.
A source close to the team said: "The employee really was lucky to escape serious injury or worse."
A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: "Our health and safety unit has made several visits since to ensure the required improvements are being made.
"The unit's remit is to investigate workplace accidents and look into complaints.
"It will always seek to enforce legislation if there is evidence that the employer is failing in its obligation to staff."
Richard Hill, company director said: "The group of companies is a responsible employer which treats all health and safety matters very seriously.
"Our improved systems of work create a safe and secure environment for our employees."
