2007-05-10 Yerington onion farmers announce deal
Yerington's Peri & Sons Farms, Inc., one of the nation's largest growers of onions, has upgraded its partnership with pallet maker CHEP by implementing an electronic data interchange system that makes using the company's pallet program more efficient, it announced in a statement Tuesday.
"The CHEP program has proven itself time after time, both in terms of quality and consistency," Jessica Peri, sales and marketing manager at Peri & Sons, said in a statement. "In addition to the productivity improvements and transportation savings we have seen from the system, the picture-frame design of the CHEP pallet keeps both our boxed and sacked product damage free."
The company also extended its contract with CHEP, the world's leading equipment pooling company, and is now shipping a wide variety of onions on CHEP pallets from its packing facility to supermarkets and foodservice distributors across the country.
Peri & Sons is one of the largest family-owned onion farm in the United States. Since it was founded in 1979, Peri & Sons have expanded from 120 acres in Yerington to 1,800 acres of white, red, yellow and sweet onions. The company also reports it is committed to the environment and its onions are certified to be free of pesticide residue.
