2007-03-30 Firemen battle lumber fire
Firefighters are trying to determine what caused a huge fire overnight behind a woodworking company. The fire broke out behind C&W Woodworking at 384 Industrial Drive, near the old Moultrie Tech building. It started some time in the late evening. The company makes wood pallets. About half an acre or more of old lumber somehow caught fire and threatened the building. Firefighters worked hard to get it under control and got the fire down to mainly heavy smoke by midnight. "It was fully involved," said Moultrie Fire Captain David Croft. "We've been trying to use some master streams. The fire was deep seated, trying to push some water down as far as we can." At 1:00am, firefighters were still working to calm hot spots behind the company. At that time they estimated they'd be on the scene at least another two hours.
