A new pallet stabilisation system, Grip Stack, that transforms slippery cartons into grippy building blocks is slashing the costs of palletising —both financial and environmental.

Freeing warehouses of mountains of discarded stretch wrap, Grip Stack has been welcomed by companies working towards targets set by the National Packaging Covenant. Supplier Sealing Systems says that costing just 30 cents per average pallet load, the dollar savings are equally as attractive.

The Grip Stack system applies polymer to carton tops as thousands of small dots that act like miniature rubber feet, creating an anti-skid surface that knits the boxes together as if held by Velcro.

Grip Stack allows pallets to be restacked repeatedly without a fresh application of polymer — something which Sealing Systems says is a huge advantage over glue or plastic wraps. Nor is there any risk of warehouse conveyor contamination.

Positioned at the outfeed of carton sealers, Sealing Systems applicators dispense the polymer in a precise low pressure, low volume format as the boxes travel along the production line.

Maintenance of the Grip Stack system is simple. Self-cleaning guns need no nightly maintenance and automatically close if the carton stops during application, while nozzles seal if the guns are inactive for more than 15 seconds to preserve the polymer.
