2007-01-03 IFCO opens second KC-area plant (Kansas City Business Journal )

IFCO Systems N.A. Inc. has opened a reverse-logistics facility in the Kansas City area, its second area plant.

In a release Tuesday, the Houston-based company, the North American subsidiary of IFCO Systems GmbH of Pullach, Germany, said it had opened the new plant Nov. 1 at 4950 Stillwell in Kansas City.

Spokeswoman Hillary Whyard said the company has operated a pallet-management services plant at 4900 Stillwell since 1995.

The company leases both plants, Whyard said. The pallet-management services plant has 59 full-time employees, and the reverse-logistics plant has 37.

The new plant is designed to enable pallet and container users to outsource all related activities to IFCO Systems at an off-site location, the company said in a release.

The company said its reverse-logistics and pallet-management plants divert nearly 2 million tons of waste from landfills each year through recycling and repair programs.

IFCO Systems now has 56 pallet-management service plants in North America
