20/05/05 CHEP changes sourcing approach To Ensure Supply of High Quality pallets
Sponsors dedicated pallet manufacturing facility for supply cost
and
availability
Orlando - CHEP, the global leader in pallet and container pooling solutions,
today announced the start- up of a dedicated pallet manufacturing facility
located in Southaven, MS. The new plant will help guarantee customers
receive the supply of pallets they require, producing a small portion of the
new pallets CHEP introduces into its pallet leasing operations in the US
each year.
Our policy is to source pallets to our rigorous specifications at the
lowest possible cost, and this new facility greatly improves our ability to
do so, said Elton Potts, Senior Vice President, Asset Management, CHEP
USA.
In benchmarking operations around the world, we have noticed other CHEP
businesses manufacturing pallets with great results. In the US, we have
chosen to invest in manufacturing equipment, but will outsource management
of the operation. This allows us to focus on our core activity, pallet and
equipment leasing, which is what creates value for our customers
Potts added that only part of the annual need for new pallets will be made
at the new facility, and CHEP will continue to source most of its pallet
needs from suppliers across the country.
