2006-09-14 Roahl Dahl Plass improvements
Roahl Dahl Plass, which regularly attracts large numbers of visitors to Cardiff Bay, is going to be significantly improved this autumn.
Following the frequent use of the area for major events, such as the International Food and Drink Festival, open air concerts and the Mermaid Quay Harbour Festival, the timber pallets have become worn and damaged.
The wooden pallets in the main arena area will be replaced by a high quality resin bonded macadam surface, which will be in keeping with the area. Many of the pallets will be reusable in the future and these will be stored and used to replace others around the waters edge as necessary.
Work is planned to start on September 18 and is expected to last nine weeks. The anticipated cost is £400,000 and the work should lead to a significant reduction in maintenance operations over the next five years.
