2006-07-12 Clifton Recycling Plant fires suspicious (By: Cait McVey)
It started late Sunday night, three separate piles of wooden pallets caught fire, and crews worked through the night to put them out. But, early Monday morning, the fires started back up again.
"It's rekindled fire, several piles that were going last night were
pulled apart, pretty well watered down and we had a couple flare ups on,"
said Lyncourt Fire Chief Jon Romanyk.
Late Sunday night three separate piles of wooden pallets caught fire. Crews
worked through the night to put out the flames. But, early Monday morning,
the fires started back up again.
This was the second fire at the Clifton Recycling plant in just over two weeks. The last one was very similar. A pile of wooden pallets also caught fire. There's no word on what started it, but officials say both are suspicious.
"Fire investigators investigated that there were some youths down there earlier, that they were leaving the scene of as fire trucks were pulling in," said Lyncourt 2nd Assistant Fire Chief John Guinta.
Investigators have yet to say if the two fires are connected. Officials at the plant say they won't be taking any new security measures. They said they are confident the police will catch those responsible
