2009-05-29 All-Fab factory up and running after fire
The All-Fab Building Components complex near Stony Mountain is back in business just one day after fire destroyed one of its main production facilities.
The Winnipeg-based firm said today that yesterday’s fire was confined to just its 19,000-square-foot, I-joist production plant. Three other buildings on the 10-acre site were not damaged.
"Our pallet production building temporarily lost power, but this has been restored and we will continue to produce pallets and crates to fulfill our order commitments," the company said.
It also said it’s inventory of I-joists is large enough to satisfy customer needs until other sources of supply can be found. And
all 25 of the complex’s employees are back at work.
The RCMP said although the fire commissioner’s office is still investigating, it has found nothing suspicious about the origins of the fire.
It also estimated damage to the building and contents at $4 million, and damage from the loss of use of the building at $1 million.
However, All-Fab general manager and partner Garry Roehr said in a later interview it’s still too early to determine what the full extent of the damage will be.
The Stony Mountain complex is one of six production plants All-Fab owns and operates on the Prairies. The others are in Winnipeg, Brandon, Regina, Saskatoon and Edmonton.
Although the company manufactures a variety of structural building components, including roof and floor trusses, laminated beams and wall panels, the Stony Mountain complex is the only one that makes I-joists and industrial crates and pallets.
