German packaging manufacturer Heuchemer Verpackung has implemented a UK-developed radio frequency identification (RFID) based plastic pallet tracking system to increase visibility of pallets and products.

The Smartflow system, which Liverpool-headquartered SLR Technology Solutions is to launch at the CeBit digital trade fair taking place in Germany this week, uses RFID technology and management software to track reusable plastic pallets through the supply chain.

Christoph Heuchemer, managing director of Heuchemer Verpackungen said, "We are the first company in our industry to use a combination of plastic pallets and tracking system."

Heuchemer chose Smartflow because of its ability to integrate with the company's existing ERP and logistics systems.
